Sagua La Grande, a major city founded in the early 19th century, is the starting point of the Camino. In the barrio of Sitiecito is found the sugar mill Hector Rodriquez. Esteban Montejo was born in the infirmary here in 1868 when the mill was named Flor de Sagua. The trail leads you to other memorable places in the life of the Cimarrón—the mill from where he escaped, the cave where he lived as a runaway slave, the centrales where he worked as a free man.

Discover all the walking stages of the Camino del Cimarrón. The trail is walkable from 12-14 as it exists today, depending on your time and training. Establish your own pace as you connect the small towns along the trail. Here are the stages that Grenier covered on the first Camino.
The Camino del Cimarrón is a fascinating trail that can be covered in 5 or 6 days by mountain bike, if you follow the trail, or road bike, if you stick to the nearest road.
